Integrated Communications Intern

The Integrated Communications Intern will work closely with the Vice President, Integrated Communications in a fast-paced environment to help develop and execute external communications strategies to build the GENYOUth brand, attract new brand/corporate partners, create engaging social content, and build media awareness. Examples of the type of work and projects that the intern will be involved with include:
Social platforms – LinkedIn, Instagram as priorities; Twitter/”X” and Facebook secondary, including:
Creating/managing ongoing content calendars under the supervision of VP, Integrated Communications.
Writing and graphically presenting social content (integrating video, photo images, and infographics)
An interest and proficiency in video as it relates to social content is a plus, as is the ability to use browser-based graphic design platforms like Canva to elevate video content and create social media graphics.
Ability to gather and organize video from different sources and create compelling social content that communicate our mission.
Daily monitoring/amplifying/sharing of social content.
Skill-building in the area of synthesizing social media metrics/analytics; experience with a social media monitoring/analytics platform is a plus.
Research and preparation of documents/recommendations to support team’s project work. This includes creating and designing communications materials (e.g., informational one-sheets, PowerPoint slides/presentations.)
Earned media story-telling development and placement – from researching editorial contacts, to brainstorming and shaping pitches, to media outreach/follow-through and tracking coverage.
Live and virtual event support – ability to travel if needed.
Analyze data and edit documents.
Compilation of reporting documents, including bi-weekly communications updates and project summaries, in Word and PowerPoint.
Work closely with VP and other members of the team on additional research projects and briefings for GENYOUth’s CEO.
Ability to think creatively in elevating GENYOUth’s National Youth Council in our social media efforts.
Work Structure & Environment
Full time work hours (35 hours/week), Monday – Friday.
Location is flexible due to remote work scenario yet must align work schedule with mountain, central, or eastern time zones to mesh easily with GENYOUth team.
Reports directly to Vice President, Integrated Communications.
Preferred Skills
Effective organizational, research and reporting skills
Ability to story-tell and write for different audiences.
Social media savvy (including LinkedIn)
Solid networking and media relationship-building skills
Digital publishing experience
Proficiency in video shooting and editing (via cell phone and tablets)
Graphics capabilities such as Canva to enhance social content including video.
Willing to listen, learn and contribute.
Confidence to present/share new ideas and points-of-view to GENYOUth management and team members during weekly staff meetings.
Travel
Occasional travel required for team meetings and organization events.
Position Requirements
U.S.-based student, currently enrolled in a degree program with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
Senior status with an expected graduation date of either December 2026 or May 2026.
Must live in Mountain, Central, or Eastern time zone
Prior internship experience with experience in and a passion for social media.
Social/digital media content creation and management, creative storytelling research
Interest in or experience with non-profit management, CSR, youth health & wellness, public relations, and/or media relations is an additional plus.

Hours: 35 hours/week, M-F
Start Date/Duration: 10-12 weeks starting in early May and ending in August.
