Care Service Operations & Strategy Internship
Carrum Health · Remote · Internship
At Carrum, we live and breathe the mission of transforming the healthcare system
to create an unmatched experience for patients. If you are passionate about
changing healthcare and want to finally get rid of surprise bills, poor quality,
and high prices, while thriving in an entrepreneurial, cutting-edge environment,
we would love to connect with you.
In 2014 Carrum reinvented the Centers of Excellence (COE) category in digital
health. Today, 90% of the US population lives within 50 miles of a Carrum COE
and our providers rank in the top 10% nationally. Our team’s execution has been
recognized by the venture community and we’ve raised more than $96M in aggregate
from investors like OMERS, Tiger Global Management and Wildcat Ventures. Our
impact has been externally proven in a 2021 RAND Corporation study
[https://www.carrumhealth.com/rand-corp-study-bundled-payments-save/] and
featured as a Harvard Business School (HBS) case study
[https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/item.aspx?num=51867].
We’re rebuilding healthcare from the ground up and looking for interns to play a
critical role in our success. We’ve experienced tremendous growth in the last
few years and we’re looking to bring on interns who can embody our company
mission and values and be assets to our teams!
This internship program runs for 10 weeks from June 8 to August 14, 2026 and is
open to recent graduates and grand students. The internship is remote and has a
stipend of $7,500.00 paid in semi-monthly installments.
Reporting directly to the Executive Sponsor of the Care Team and VP of Patient
Care, you will be a primary driver of operational excellence during this
internship. This is a highly visible role that offers a unique look into the
inner workings of a successful Value-Based Care business. You will be tasked
with professionalizing our core functions and using data to illuminate the path
forward for our patient journey.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will...
* Architect Operational Excellence: Create and refine Standard Operating
Procedures (SOPs) for critical functions, including staff training, medical
record collection, and member travel logistics.
* Funnel Analytics: Conduct rigorous data analysis to understand Carrum’s
member funnel, identifying "leakage" and highlighting key areas for strategic
focus.
* AI Integration: Act as the internal champion for AI efficiency, using prompt
engineering (specifically with Gemini and Hex) to streamline documentation,
automate repetitive tasks, and enhance output quality.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with senior leaders to turn
analytical insights into high-impact growth and efficiency initiatives.
* Strategic Communication: Create clear, concise, and visually compelling
presentations to report findings and recommendations to the executive team.
* Get exposure to managers and leaders with excellence in business acumen
* Network and build relationships within our organization
* Participate in all events available to our employees
We’re excited about you because…
You want to gain experience in a fast-paced digital health startup, and you’re
yearning for an opportunity to take your current experience and apply it to a
fresh new opportunity that is poised for enormous growth. We also hope to see
from you:
* You are available from June 8, 2025 to August 18, 2026
* You have your own laptop or computer and a stable internet connection in
order to work remotely
* Are Technologically Savvy: You don't just use software; you master it. You
have a deep understanding of how to leverage AI tools like Gemini and Hex
through advanced prompt engineering to produce superior results.
* Are a Strong Communicator: You are an adept writer who can influence thinking
and action across a wide array of stakeholders.
* Think Like a Consultant: You are highly analytical, at home in spreadsheets,
and can easily interpret complex data sets.
* Are Entrepreneurial and Resourceful: You find creative ways to make a big
impact quickly and without needing constant direction.
* Balance Rigor with Nuance: You can strike a balance between quantitative data
and the qualitative, human elements of patient care.
Why you’ll love your summer at Carrum...
* You'll do real work that matters. This isn't a coffee-and-shadow internship.
You'll own a project with measurable outcomes that the team will actually use
and you'll be able to point to your impact when the summer wraps.
* You'll learn from people who've done it before. Our team includes experienced
operators from companies like Booz & Company, Livongo, Google, and Optum.
You'll get exposure to how high-performing teams think, make decisions, and
build in a fast-moving environment.
* You'll see what it looks like to change healthcare. Carrum works with top
health systems — Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, Stanford Health Care — and
employers like Walgreens, United Airlines, and large public sector
organizations. The problems we're solving are real, and so is the impact.
* You'll be trusted to do your job. We give team members, including interns,
real autonomy. You'll get support and feedback, but you won't be
micromanaged. We want you to bring your own ideas and perspective to the
work.
* You'll be part of a team that has fun. We celebrate wins, make space to
recharge, and genuinely enjoy working together. Whether it's virtual events,
team rituals, or just a great Slack channel, you'll feel like part of the
team, not a summer visitor.
* You'll leave with more than a line on your resume. By the end of 10 weeks,
you'll have built something, measured its impact, and presented your findings
to stakeholders. That's a real portfolio piece, and a preview of what a
career in this field can look like.
