Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary The Washington University Research Administration Internship is designed to provide ambitious participants with meaningful exposure to the research administration operations of an internationally-ranked research university. The internship provides a first-hand introduction to research administration through observation, participation, and project work. This position is full-time and works 37.5 hours per week. After successful completion of the internship training experience, the Research Education and Information (REI) Department will assist participants in finding a permanent position at the university. The duration of the role is intended to be a 12-month position as part of the internship experience, without a guarantee of continued employment. The intern will work closely with the Research Education and Information team to complete intensive training bootcamps for Pre- and Post-award processes, as well as STAR Program asynchronous training modules. Following completion of base knowledge requirements, interns will spend the remainder of the year working alongside partner offices in Central, and on the Danforth and Medical campuses. Partners will include departments and units such as OSRS, Engineering, Surgery, and more. Projects with partner offices may include such experiences as working with a PI on submission of a basic R01; Searching for funding opportunities; Proofreading proposals; Developing resources for websites and training sessions; and Data entry. At the completion of the year, the individual would be sufficiently trained and ready to occupy a fulltime position in research administration at the university. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: The duration of the role is intended to be a 12-month position as part of the internship experience, without a guarantee of continued employment. Through exposure to work in REI and various units, develop and maintain a knowledge base of the regulatory and legal framework and vast compliance rules affecting sponsored research agreements. Develop and maintain a knowledge base related to university and agency systems. Assist in the identification of research funding sources and agencies. Assist in the interpretation of external agency guidelines. Assist research administrators in proposal preparation, assembly and submission. Assist in the development and review of proposal budgets. Assist in entering, reviewing and maintaining data in the Research Management System (RMS). Assist in pre-award submission proposal review for adherence to Federal regulations and agency requirements. Assist in the analysis and response of awards received from external funding agencies for required actions, terms, accuracy of dollars, active assurances and account/fund set-up in the Workday system. Assist in the post-award review and preparation of agency documents for submission to funding agencies. Perform other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job Location/Working Conditions. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
